Magento Go is an online service for entrepreneurs and small businesses that lets you build your own online store to sell your products and services online. Magento Go makes it easy for you to start selling online. You don’t need to worry about servers and software. Magento Go handles everything for you.

If you run a ecommerce store and looking to switch to Magento Go it’s become vital to understand what is Magento Go and what to expect from it.

Following are some of the common Magento Go questions to help you better understand the deal:

Magento Go Basics

Q: Can you Try Before you Buy?
Yes! Magento offers a completely free, fully-functional 30-day trial, that you can use to try out Magento Go before you buy a plan. You don’t even require a credit card.

Q: Can Magento Convert Your Trial into a Regular Plan?
Yes. As long as you select a regular plan within your 30-day trial period, Magento Go can convert your trial into a regular plan. You will not have to migrate any data or settings. Magento Go will not start billing you for your regular plan until your 30 free day trial period is complete.

Q: Do Magento Go Charge a Set Up Fee?
No, Magento Go plans do not have any set up fees.

Q: Do Magento Go Charge Transaction Fees?
No, Magento does not charge any transaction fees. The only fee you pay is the monthly service fee for your plan.

Q: How Much Magento Go charge for Credit Card Processing?
Magento Go plans do not include credit card processing by default. Magento supports a large number of credit card processing providers. Simply sign up with one of these services (or transfer your existing service) and Magento Go will show you how to add that service into your Magento Go account.

Q: Is There a Contract?
Magento Go plans are offered on a month-to-month basis. There are no contracts to sign and you can cancel at any time.

Q: Can You switch Plans?
Yes. Magento makes it easy to change plans at any time.

Q. What Happens If you Exceed your Allotted Storage or Bandwidth Capacity?
There is an overage charge of $10 for every 100MB of additional storage you use above the amount specified in your plan. Magento charges $10 per each Gigabyte of additional bandwidth used above the amount specified in your plan. If you are regularly exceeding the bandwidth or storage limits of your current plan, you can upgrade to a larger plan at any time.

Q. Do I Have to Sign an Annual Contract to Use Magento Go?
Magento Go plans are offered on a month-to-month basis. There are no contracts to sign and you can cancel at any time.

Q. Do All Plans Include All Features?
Except where noted on the plans page, all features are included in all of our Magento Go plans. You can view a complete list on the Magento Go features page.

Q. You Would Like to Cancel My Plan, Can You Get a Refund?
You may cancel your plan at any time by logging it to your Magento Account. When you cancel your plan, Magento will stop billing you from your next billing cycle forward. Magento does not provide refunds for your current billing cycle.

Q. You’ve Qualified For Magento’s $1M eCommerce Stimulus, How Do You Get Your $15/Month Credit?
Once you receive your email confirmation from Magento that you have qualified for the eCommerce stimulus, Magento will automatically apply a $15 credit towards your monthly bill for 12 months beginning from your next billing cycle. Credits are not applied retroactively towards past monthly charges.

Q. Do They Have a Partner Program or White Label Options For Magento Go?

Domain Names & SSL Certificates

Q. Can You use Your Own Domain Name?
Yes. Magento lets you customize your online store with your own domain name on any Magento Go plan, except for the “Get Going” plan. Once you have purchased a plan, you can add your own domain to your store through your Account Settings. Please follow the instructions in the Magento Go Knowledge Base to add your own domain to your Magento Go online store.

Q. Does Magento Sell Domain Names and SSL Certificates?
At this time, Magento Go does not directly sell domain names or SSL certificates. Please follow the instructions in the Magento Go Knowledge Base for purchasing domains and SSL certificates from a 3rd party and adding them to your Magento Go Online Store.

Q. What about SSL?
Magento Go provides free shared SSL for all stores, enabling you to offer secure checkout to all of your customers. If you wish to use your own custom SSL, you can transfer one to your Magento Go online store on our Going Places, Go Beyond and Go Anywhere Plans. Please follow the instructions in the Magento Go Knowledge Base to add your custom SSL certificate to your Magento Go online store.

Magento Go Theming & Design

Q. Can You Customize The Theme/Design of Your Magento Go Store?
Yes, Magento Go gives you lots of options for designing your store. You can start with one of many professional themes and then customize them to meet your needs. You can upload your own logo and images, edit the theme’s CSS or even upload your own CSS file. You can even upload JavaScript blocks into your design. Magento Go makes it very easy to achieve your desired look and feel of your store without sacrificing functionality.

Q. Can You use FTP to Upload Your Own Custom Designs and Images?
Magento Go does not provide FTP access to your store. You can upload groups of images into your store through your web-based administrative control panel. This limitation is in place so that merchants to do not modify their stores in such a way that they are no longer upgradeable. Magento Go provides full access to customize your store’s design through images, CSS and JavaScript.

Q. Will Your Store Be Upgradeable if You Customize a Theme or Design?
Yes. Magento Go is specially built so that your themes and custom designs are always upgradeable. As we release new functionality and upgrades to the Magento Go stores, your designs will never become incompatible.

Q. Can You Use Magento Extensions with Magento Go
Magento Go does not currently support extensions. You will soon be able to extend your Magento Go online store with your own custom apps and with third-party apps with the Magento Go Platform which is currently in beta.

Q. Can You Use Third-Party Themes For Your Magento Go Store
Magento Go uses a different theming system that other Magento products, which means third-party themes will not currently work inside Magento Go. You can however, use custom CSS and images to modify any Magento Go theme to fit your online store needs.

Payments & Transactions

Q. Do I Need My Own Merchant Account?
If you are new to selling online, you do not need a merchant account, if you don’t want or need one. You can start by signing up with PayPal to accept Express Checkout payments. If you do want a merchant or want the ability to accept credit cards in your online store, you can sign up for one through one of payments partners.

Q. Do Magento Go Charge Transaction Fees?
No, Magento does not charge any transaction fees. The only fee you pay is the monthly service fee for your plan.

Q. Which Payment Processors Do Magento Go Support?
Magento Go works with PayPal, Authorize.net and OGone for credit card processing and alternative payment methods. You can also configure your online store to accept checks. Magento is quickly adding many new payment processor and gateway options from around the world.
