Create CMS Page

CMS (Content Management System) pages are static pages such as your Homepage, About Us, and Customer Service pages that provide information about a web store and are managed through the Backend panel. CMS pages are full pages that are available via their own URL address.

To create a new content page follow the instructions given below: 1. In the Admin Panel, choose CMS => Pages => Manage Content.
2. Click [Add New Page] at the top right to create a new Page. The New Page configuration page appears on the Page Information panel by default as shown below.

image

3. In the Page Information panel, enter the following information:

URL Key –> Select the unique URL key for this page. This will be part of the page URL that customers will see, visit, or link to when accessing this page. In terms of search engine optimization, it is helpful to select a keyword-rich URL Key.

A three column layout will include two sidebars. Two Column with Left and Right Sidebar create a large content column with a respective sidebar.
In the Layout Update XML field, you customize the information displayed in the layout using XML.
9. The Custom Design tab_section enables you to define a custom theme and layout to be used for a defined period of time. This feature allows you to create custom themed pages for holidays or special sales periods (for example, a Christmas theme, or Thanksgiving Weekend Sale).
10. Select a Custom Design From and Custom Design To date that will define the period for which this custom design will be used.
11. Click Meta Data from the left panel to input Meta Data for this page. Meta Data is descriptive information about a page that search engines may use to index your store’s pages. This content is not visible directly on your website.
12. When you are finished, click [Save Page] to save and publish your new page.

Localization

Interface translation

If you want to change additional interface character strings. For example “Special Price” label is replaced with shorter “Now only” label. Strings are located in app/design/frontend/default/default/locale/en_US/translate.csv. This file can be used to translate the interface into other languages.

Example

To translate the interface into spanish follow these instructions:

1. Create a new folder for your translation. For spanish language it will be app/design/frontend/default/Eclipse/locale/es_ES.

2. Copy translate.csv from app/design/frontend/default/default/locale/en_US and paste it into created folder app/design/frontend/default/Eclipse/locale/es_ES.

3. Open app/design/frontend/default/Eclipse/locale/es_ES/translate.csv in OpenOffice Calc (or other text editor like Notepad++, PSPad).

Note:The editor should be capable to save file in UTF-8 encoding. Do not use Excel, it can break file structure.

If you open translate.csv in OpenOffice Calc it might look like this:

Special Price: Now only:
My Wishlist Wishlist
My Wishlist (%d item) Wishlist (%d)
My Wishlist (%d items) Wishlist (%d)
My Account Account

The first column contains the original character strings. It should be left intact. In the second column you can place your translation of each string.

Some strings contains %d or %s entries. These entries should be left intact in the translated strings.

Troubleshooting

1. I'm getting 404 not found when trying to open theme admin pages.

Log out from Magento admin panel, clear the store cache under var/cache, and log in again.

2. After the extension installation the store gives an error, or blank page.

Log out from Magento admin panel. Change the owner of the extracted extension files to the web server user and set 775 permissions on them. Clear the store cache and try again.

3. There is no Theme Admin in configuration section, or I get a blank page, or Access Denied error.

Log out from Magento admin panel, clear the store cache under var/cache, clear all browser cookies for your store domain and log in again.

4. My configuration changes do not appear on the frontend.

Clear the store cache under var/cache, clear all browser cookies for your store domain and refresh the page in your browser.

5. Some of the theme features don't work or give errors. What can cause the problem?

a) Magento cache (or external cache) was not flushed after installation of the theme. b) Compilation mode was not disabled before installation. c) Some of the theme files were not uploaded. d) File permissions issue. e) You have some third-party extensions which change/break theme's default behavior or cause some conflicts. Extensions such as Fooman Speedster can break the JavaScript files – refer to chapter for more details. f) You edited theme files and accidentally removed or changed something in the files. g) You have customized the theme by creating custom sub-theme and your modifications change/break the default behavior of the theme. h) You have some elements that left from your previous theme (e.g. in Magento's "base" theme in app/design/frontend/base/) and that changes/breaks the default behavior of the theme. Also check your log files in var/log/ (log settings should be enabled in System > Config > Developer) for more information about possible errors.

6. One of my extensions doesn't work with this theme.

This theme may not be compatible with some third-party extensions. It’s impossible for theme author to make the theme compatible by default with all existing extensions because there are thousands of available Magento extensions. Generally all extensions can work with all themes but sometimes they have to be integrated manually. That’s because sometimes the extension and the theme override the same Magento template file so there can be a conflict.

7. One of the features stopped working after third-party extension was installed.

There can be a conflict, if the extension and the theme override the same Magento template file. You should contact author of the extension for more information. Also, check your log files in var/log/ (log settings should be enabled in System > Config > Developer) for more information about the error.

8. How to add image under "MEN" category?

image

To add image under category in top navigation go to Admin panel -> Catalog -> Manage Categories. Select any parent subcategory category under which you want to show the image & upload your category thumbnail image under General Information -> Thumbnail Image.

9. How to remove Bestseller or Featured Products from home page?

In admin panel Go to CMS -> Pages -> "Eclipse Home Page" content section.

10. How to Display Featured Products on home page?

To display featured products on home page . Go to Catalog -> Manage Products Edit any product under General tab "Featured Product On Home" set to "Yes".

11. After installing theme am getting a blank page in my store front.

You are facing issue because you copy theme under rwd folder but you are using default package. Make sure your package and your theme folder should be same. image

12. When I add a blog I haven't an image showing. Where do I put the image that will show on the homepage with the overlay that takes you to the blog article?

In admin panel Go to BlogMate > Manage Blog > Add New Post.Under Content section upload your blog image. image

13. How to add banner slider under category page?

image

To add banner slider under category page . Go to Catalog -> Manage Categories General Information -> Description.

14. How do we enable "Remember Me" checkbox on login page?

By default “Remember me” functionality is not enabled in magento. You can enable it form admin, very easily and quickly. To enable it go in System->Configuration->Customers->Persistent Shopping Cart->General Options->Enable Persistence. From here select Yes from select box and click on “Save Config” button. Now refresh your site and you will see “Remember Me” along with checkbox will appear on login page. If not then clear your cache from Cache Management.
